This is a cool little story. Every year ski magazine comes out with best gear and best resort issues. In the 2009 readers survey for best ski resorts is a article called iSkier.
The article go's on to talk about a guy out in the backcountry checking avalanche reports and weather. They go on to say this wouldn't have been possible a few years ago. well needless to say iPhone was the example they use. With over 80'000 applications for iphone a couple just might help skiers. More than a couple really. Not only can skiers and snowboarders use Apps. for trail maps, but as the story said check for dangerous situations in the backcountry.
I am a huge skier and get around 100 days a year on one mountain or another. I never could find a use for even bringing my phone let alone a smartphone. These days have changed my mind about bringing a phone skiing. If someone gets hurt most resorts have a direct cell numbers to ski patrol headquarters. This saves tons of critical time. Especially with head injuries Skiing and Snowboarding.
With just a flick, you’ll know everything from 24/48/72-hour snowfall to lift and trail closures at over 2,000 resorts worldwide. Ski Magazine is a little late to the party on this subject. Its OK lots of people are behind with the new technology.
Not only can the Iphone get skiers and snowboarders to the mountains it can get them down them too.
